Ready or not, here I go!

Beautiful downtown St. Johns at dusk.

Right behind me is the most easterly point in North America. Taken at Signal Hill, St. Johns.

Newfoundland was wonderful and almost a cultural experience in itself. St. Johns is very beautiful and I met some really cool people in our CIDA/CIL training, all of whom I wish the best to wherever they are headed. The training encouraged thinking in the direction of inter-cultural communication and how to deal with culture shock.

I spent yesterday tying up loose ends at Kings and re-connecting with the sweet people there. Sarah Zomer went on a CIDA internship to Kenya last year and she has been VERY helpful. I feel like I am prepared for the best and the worst. That's probably the best way to go. Seriously though, anticipation this time around is making me on/off ill. It's strange. If I had time to write a song about it, I probably would. As of now I'm realizing that it's not so easy
to leave this oh-so-comfortable life of mine for 3 months. Goodbyes are not fun, but necessary.

Tomorrow is the big day! Please pray for things to flow smoothly for me. Particularly in the event of receiving a sufficient Kenyan visa upon arrival. I will be in Kisumu by Tuesday. I fly from Calgary to Minneapolis, to Amsterdam, and will spend Monday night in Nairobi at the CRWRC guest homes. The next day, Lord willing, I will be meeting up wih Fidelis.
From what I know, I will be the only CIDA intern in the Maseno/Kenya area, however/coincidentall, a few good friends of mine are also experiencing east Africa. Along the right margin you will see their blogs. Whether I'll get together with these people I don't know.hopefully.

Please pray for the many Africans affected by severe flooding. The photo above is Sundanese people experiencing the worst flooding in living memory. "Severe flooding across Africa has wrecked hundreds of thousands of homes and left many people vulnerable to water-borne diseases, officials say." -BBC NEWS. Maybe I should be getting sent for flood relief! I don't know how much Kisumu has been affected.

I will post as soon as I can.
